As the end of the year is rapidly approaching, class of 2025 and their accomplishments over the past four years were celebrated at Senior Awards Night on Wednesday, May 28th, in the auditorium. Students were celebrated for their past, present, and future accomplishments and wished good luck on their future endeavors. Scholarship and academic awards coordinators Amy Claffey and Sarah Fawcett spent countless hours planning and organizing this event, which ran smoothly and would not be possible without them.
This ceremony began with handing out awards for each class in all 11 of the departments and each class had two types of awards to hand out, one for excellence and achievement, as well as one for perseverance and dedication. The excellence and achievement award is awarded to a student or students who have demonstrated overall academic work ethic that translates to a strong understanding of the content and whose performance and product often serves as an exemplar throughout the course. The perseverance and dedication award is given to a student or students who consistently demonstrates grit and fortitude in continuing to improve in their learning and performance through a course.
The ceremony is not just celebrating their current accomplishments, but also acknowledges their past and future accomplishments. Students who passed their APPL language proficiency test in their sophomore, junior, or senior year were acknowledged with their seal of biliteracy. Students were also presented with many scholarships for their hard work and dedication to help with their post secondary education. The seven students going into the military after school were also acknowledged for their patriotism and dedication for this country, as well as celebrated for some of their hard work to get into military academies.
Students were acknowledged for their hard work and high educational status to get into the national honors society, become student of the month, as well as other notable accomplishments. The national merit scholarship recognition was given to Julia Pineu, Marcus Swain, and Emelia Wacker for their high scores on the SAT.
