This year, Old Saybrook High School welcomed a new paraprofessional, Mrs. Denise Davison! Her position involves working with students in any area they might need help across different classrooms and subjects. Naturally, this is a job that can be quite complicated, but Davison embraces it with excitement, as this marks her return to teaching from retirement. Davison, who taught social studies and special education in New York for 24 years, says, “I definitely missed working in a classroom and with students.”
Davison, a New York native, retired from her teaching position and moved to Connecticut during the COVID-19 pandemic, making for a chaotic end to a long, influential career in the classroom. When asked what brought her out of retirement, Davison shared that she’s, “always been a worker; retirement is very nice, but I still feel like I have more to offer.” Additionally, she recommends that anyone should teach if they feel like they have it in them, “first of all, you’ll never be bored, but also, you’ll always feel like you hopefully made a difference in someone’s life.”
Finally, regarding her future at Old Saybrook High School, Davison discussed her excitement to watch her students learn and improve their skills, playing a role in their growth as individuals, “I can see it already how people get more comfortable and start to have a sense that they can do it. It’s nice to see that change happen and to see them move forward.”
Welcome to OSHS Mrs. Davison!
