The Student Government executive board plans on putting student feedback from last year to use in making the Homecoming dance fun for all this fall. This year’s dance is Saturday, October 26th from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M., and there appear to be many changes
Underclassmen representative Elizabeth Bubello offered her insight as to what the executive board had to figure out when formulating plans. She said, “A large part of what we struggled with is [that we get] student complaints but we don’t get student feedback before the dance.” Along with many complaints but little feedback, the executive board also has to manage the opinions of all students, being realistic about their budget, and how much time they put into Homecoming. In years past students have either been too cold in the parking lot or unsatisfied with the ambiance of the gym. In order to create a happy medium, the executive board came up with a solution that they think will make the students happy. Bubello states, “We are doing half inside half outside and hopefully in the outside space people can dance and listen to music.” The executive board hopes that this can help students find balance at Homecoming. As well as that, Bubello said, “Hopefully having the inside outside situation can help people with over stimulation because the inside will hopefully be quieter than the outside.”
With events there come challenges with planning, and Homecoming is not an exception. Executive board advisor Mrs. Scherber says, “It is challenging to find a date that can accommodate everyone with 340 different students involved in multiple activities.” Another major issue the executive board faces is working hard to please everyone. Whether it be for location, theme, music or food there are many groups to cover. Mrs. Torre, another executive board advisor, said, “It’s challenging for us both, however, because we so much want our students to have an amazing night and it can be difficult to make everyone happy.”
The executive board has new plans that they hope will make Homecoming more enjoyable, such as improving the court, changing the layout, and creating a new purpose for the theme. This year, there will be nominees for the Homecoming court that will eventually be voted on by the student body, since many students last year reported not knowing who the court was. As well as that, the executive board hired the same DJ, Eddie Reyes, that worked at last year’s Prom because of the positive feedback he received after the event. Mrs. Torre says, “We hope students come, have fun and dance the night away!”
