After the initial meeting the Spanish 5 Exploramos class had with their multilingual buddies at Goodwin, many improvements were seen with both groups of students. But the Exploramos class wanted to go beyond just going to Goodwin one day each week, so they thought of a new plan to connect with their buddies in a more social aspect all together in one place. Several ideas were proposed such as apple picking, but ultimately they decided on a trip to Sweet Luna’s as a tasty treat indoors.
The Exploramos class walked to Goodwin on a cold December morning to pick up their buddies. Eventually one by one each kid was brought together and paired up with their high school buddy and set off to Sweet Luna’s. As the kids arrived they were filled with excitement and were introduced to the owner who graciously provided the opportunity to set this trip. Each kid was able to choose which flavors they wanted and toppings.
The kids definitely saw improvement when it came to talking with their buddies more openly. When asked how did the kids open up more Stephanie Rivera responded with “I could tell that after having spent some time with their buddies they felt way more comfortable around everyone, and they were talking to everyone and greeted everyone instantly. They like us lol.” Overall the frozen yogurt social was a success as it led to all of the kids coming together as a group and just being with each other while openly showing more improvements communicating with each other especially with English. All of this was made possible with the help of Mr. Anastasio for personally footing the bill, and for Doreen Day who owns Sweet Lunas for making this possible.
