Fall has started, which means it’s that time of the year for football again. Football weekends are loved by many across America, whether it’s because of the vibes, the snacks, or simply rooting for your favorite team. However, one big reason why people look towards the TV on Sundays is fantasy football. Fantasy football is played worldwide; for some it is a fun tradition, and for others it is a competitive challenge. Fantasy football is played by entering a league and drafting a team from a selection of the players in the NFL and then competing with other people who are also picking their own teams. The better your players do, the more points they get and the higher your personal team climbs in the leader board. Here at Old Saybrook High School, there are countless leagues, each played within different groups, some people even being part of multiple leagues at the same time. James Ashe is a part of a league at Old Saybrook, and he loves to play it with his friends.
Ashe likes to watch football in his free time, and naturally joined a fantasy football league to play with his friends. To him, it is interesting to see how his players do and how their performance affects his team. He said,“being able to watch the games and seeing your player play and seeing if they play well.” Having fun isn’t the only great part about fantasy football, “it teaches you managing moves that could even translate to real life later on” says Ashe. Fantasy football brings more fun and thrill to your average Sunday night football with fun twists that many people add to their leagues.
