With fall sports like soccer, cross country, and field hockey coming to an end, many are now looking forward to winter sports. Coaches and players alike are looking forward to this upcoming basketball season.
Mr. Perras, the coach of the boys basketball team, said, “I’m very excited anticipating a very successful season.” Mr. Woods, the coach of the girls basketball team, said he has been thinking about the season ever since the 24-25 season ended. Mr. Woods has ambitious goals for this season. He said, “Goals for the season are the same as every year: win every time out: win the SLC, and win the State Championship in our Division! We will measure our success based on what we accomplish outside the win and loss column in terms of growth as a team and all the intangibles that make playing a great experience!” Mr. Perras also has his goals set for this upcoming season. “We want to make the state tournament and give ourselves the chance to compete at that level. I think that’s very doable this year. I also want everyone to have fun and build a positive culture.”
Both coaches explained how they’re preparing their players for this season. “We have conditioning and weight training over 20ish minutes 20-30 minutes and then we’ll go to the weight room for the rest of the time,” Mr.Perras informs. The girls basketball have lost all of their 5 starters, Samantha Hanover, Breleigh Cooke, Kylie Lake, Lauren Kapp, and Ellie Pennington which were all the core parts of the 3 consecutive seasons with great amounts of wins. However the team has a young group of players coming and are under the captains of Claire Casella and Olivia Stone, who want to make this season even better than last. On the other hand, the boys basketball team lost their two starters and their three team captains, Wes Percival, Brendan Cassella, and Ethan Lane. Coach Perras said he is excited because he wants to see who is ready to fill their shoes for this upcoming season.
