As the 2024-2025 school year comes to a close, many seniors find themselves reminiscing on the many memories they have collected in their past four years at Old Saybrook High School. From sports, spirit week, homecoming, senior events, and prom, there have been many special moments created along the way.
For Stephanie Rivera, her favorite memory was the Quebec trip that the French students of OSHS went to in January of 2024. She explains,“The Quebec trip was a great experience. It was so fun to go to a new country with my two best friends Fiona and Morgan. I remember we had so much fun tubing, the activities we did were so much fun.” Fiona Mckeown agrees, adding,“We loved the food; there were delicious croissants and maple syrup lollipops. We definitely bonded while running around like little kids in a different country.”
From little kids tottling and tripping over balls to winning tournaments, many seniors have fond memories of being on the teams here at the high school. Liam Roberts, a lacrosse player and senior captain this year, remembers celebrating OSHS’s first lacrosse shoreline championship last year. Liam notes,“It meant a lot because we worked really hard for it, and lacrosse hadn’t gotten that far previously.”
Even if students weren’t born in Old Saybrook, many teens still cherish the memories they did have here. Matthew Makris speaks to his growing up,“When I moved here in the summer of 7th grade, I met Liam and told him I could skip a stone on land. I ended up hitting an old lady but he apologized to her for me, and we’ve been friends since. Looking back, I wish I had enjoyed the good times…you never know how fast it will end.”
